Backwards Falling Rain
My mother tells me I’m unique,
Like backwards falling rain.
Or maybe rain falling backwards?
Who can honestly say?
All I know is I fit in like,
The wrong puzzle piece,
Or the fiery sun at night
Among the pale stars.
I’m the fish that cannot swim,
A sky that’s never blue,
A bird that will not sing,
The lie that’s actually true.
I am unique, no one is the same,
Are you like me, backwards falling rain?
I am a flicker of orange flame
That won’t burn you, and will not die.
Do you think you understand?
Let your eyes burn like coals
Like beacons in our storm,
Let us show them: we don’t fall the same.
No one
Is
The
Same.
