The Old Man By The Sea
There once was an old man
Who lived by the sea
In a lighthouse the color of bran
Oh my was he free
He tilled the land all day
The flowers were his offspring
And when they bloomed that May
The honey bees came out to sing
A marigold, a rose
A stem he couldn’t sever
Though he knows, he knows
That they won’t last forever
In spring he would drink earl grey
And walk along the sand
Down by the bay
Gazing out at his majestic land
He wore his red coat
While the sun set over the sea
When he sailed his sailboat
He was the happiest a man could ever be
Married to the water
Waves passionately crashing
Every day he fought her
She was soft, then thrashing
Filled with peace
He and his stormy blue
Joy could never cease
Their love, as sweet as honeydew
Rainy days
Timeless nights
In the midst of the summer haze
Lightning strikes
When the mosquitoes began to bite
And darkness came knocking
He began watching for ships in the night
Old and rocking
The groan of thunder
In a sky of azure
He began to wonder
What might have washed ashore
