Falling
The first signs of falling, a rapid beating in your chest.
Butterflies erupting in your stomach,
Pushing and pushing,
Trying to get out.
like they strive to reach,
for something right in front of you.
Something so sweet
So pure
So kind
So everlasting
So perfect
You wish that the feeling is felt towards you
Praying upon a star, crashing down to earth
Just like your stomach plummeting
Straight down to your toes and through your shoes
When you see them with someone else
Smiling at each other like they’re sharing a joke
Only they know.
Falling for someone is like jumping out of a plane.
Nice when the jump is planned,
When someone helps you slowly float towards the ground
Joined hand in hand in a peaceful glide.
But,
Terrifying when you get pushed out suddenly
when everything above is a blur and the ground is very clear
No one determines when and who they get to fall for.
No one to blame but the organ ripping through your chest.
No one to blame but the organ that makes your skin heat up hotter than the sun.
When you hear them laugh at something you said,
or makes your own skin crawl when you see them upset
No one
No one
No one
But your own heart for falling so fast.

I've always loved the idea of falling in love and listening to people talk about themselves falling in love. I wanted to put these thoughts and ideas into writing so I could describe possibly how they're feeling inside. While I wanted to show how love can change how you see the world positively, I also wanted to put the other side of falling in love. More often than not, people fall in love and it's one-sided and sometimes that needs to be written about too. I used this poem to try and describe both feelings the best that I can.
