Reminder... you already have what it takes

Millions of families

Separated at the border

The wires separating them

Is like fire

Forcing families to stay apart.

Over five hundred children

Ripped away from their parents

Left alone

In a new country

Without speaking the language.

Many will never reunite with their loved ones,

And will have to move on

Without them

Forced to leave them.

Innocent civilians

Are treated like animals

And shoved behind bars

Even though

They were just trying to

Better their life.

The author's comments:

In this poem, I explore what Central American's experience at the US border. In 2017, after former President Trump was elected, thousands of families were separated at the border when trying to enter The United States of America. As someone who thoroughly enjoys expressing themselves through spoken word, when border separation became a prominent issue in this country, I felt as if I the only way I could show my feelings was through poetry.
