When I write

why am I drawn to identity?

It’s probably because

I believe one’s identity

is the most complex part of a person.

Well,

It IS the person.

A person’s identity is

Who they are,

What they are.

People are crafted by experience,

molded by exposure.

These things define your actions,

so they say.

But,

Our people have

somehow shattered

something

Unbreakable

We live in a world

of labels and tags

because

Labels and tags

Limit ambiguity,

and the limitation of ambiguity

Keeps our society

Safe.

Labels and tags

Muddle the meaning

Of an identity as a whole.

It reduces a soul

Down to a

Mere

Word.

So,

When the media

labels and profiles,

it takes away

the authenticity

of

The identity.

So,

When I write

Identity comes to mind because

Finding your true identity,

In this world

Has become

Something

Of a

Challenge.

Society attempts to domineer

Your place

In

Their agenda.

They push you

into their will,

Dictate where you

stand or sit,

Determine who you

stand or sit with.

Our names are numbers.

our souls become

Forgotten.

We are a statistic

insignificant in the

minds of

Civilization.

We may not be able

to change

Our eyes

or our skin color.

We may not be able

to change

Our past

or our people.

We may not be able

to change

Our mothers

or our fathers.

But,

We can change

Ourselves

Challenge ourselves

to be so much

more.

To be the

Biggest.

Boldest.

Best.

To defy the media

Defy the labels and tags

Defy the expectations.

To embrace

Who you are,

What you are.

Our identities

are complexities.

They represent

Us.

So let’s

represent ourselves

Right.

This piece was my actual thought process, and almost a reflection about how I feel about identity and my understanding of why I write about it. Hope you enjoy :)
