Smiles
It takes a shortened sweet pang-
When his eyes meet mine for a fraction of a second then I turn-
Shift, leaning back so other’s heads block his from mine.
So that his eyes will not be able to find mine again-
But this time I don’t.
I look right at him, what I can see at least.
I size him up.
His hair, ruffled from the breath I breath when I see him-
His eyebrows, shaped swirly in the inner corners from how my mind spins when I see him.
His eyes-
Glued to mine as mine are to his.
He doesn’t shift, but grins at me confidently.
He knows something I don’t.
He knows.
Knows what I think of him-
Knows what my friends know, what I think of him.
Do you think he would be so confident if he knew I knew?
If he knew what I knew of what he thought of me.
If he knew what his friends have told me outside of class as they wiggle their eyebrows and look between me and him.
Would he still send me Smiles?
