Can there be more than one definition for a word

Can there be more than one adjective to describe a person

Can there be more than one side to life

Once upon a time I think of the caressing hands across my forehead

Each wrinkle on her hand, a word of wisdom to spread

She scoops the rice from her plate and feeds it to me

Ignoring the rumbles of her tummy

She swathes a velvety cloth, encompassing me

Despite her dry cracked feet, from the piercing wind

She chops her hair and weaves it to fit her toes

She wouldn't want to depict the gruesome blood when she cuts her toes

¨Waah¨, I cry out for I sense something's wrong

She consolidates me with a ever familiar melody

Suppressing the resonate of agony

I wanted the moment to last forever

But soon the rippling signals of death shot me

She drifted up into the clouds far from the universe

The ever so familiar melody now only a memory

The velvety cloth slabered with the crimson red of blood

Only thing left is her woven hair, that is red now

There was nothing she could sacrifice now

If she's not there at all

The author's comments:

Hi, my name is Amruta I. and I am currently a rising freshman and am 14 years old. My roots and heritage trace back to the small villages in South India, where my parents were born. As a Indian American teenager life has a lot of obstacles to offer to try and get me to give up on my culture, but whenever I feel that way poetry is who I go to. I release all my emotions into a poem and it is my way of coping with stress and all the feelings in me. I love that poetry is so diverse just like the world around us, and it allows us to express ourselves and create an impact. Besides writing poetry I also learn and perform Indian classical dance, also known as Bharatanatyam. I started learning Bharatanatyam at the tender age of 4 and it has grown to become a part of me. I am very passionate towards Indian classical dance as it's further connected me to my heritage.
