Senioritis
It’s your final year of high school.
You’ve already been accepted to college,
but still are required to attend school every day.
You still have to continue to spend 7 hours a day at school,
when you could be at work making money or enjoying your life.
You feel mentally exhausted & drained constantly,
but everyone just assumes you’re in a bad mood.
And although you’re eager to leave now,
when the day comes it will be more difficult to step out those doors than you thought.
The years of good and bad moments in those halls,
are now just memories that most of which you will soon forget.
Soon you will describe all your best friends as
“an old friend from high school”.
Soon all you know will change forever.
But after all,
maybe it’s for the best.

The inspiration for this piece came from the constant ups and downs of senior year. The yearning to leave but also being terrified to start your new life.
