Bubble Wishes
Miniature orbs,
A rainbow of color
Soapy circles floating to the sky
“Make a wish,”
“Blow out lightly.”
Twirling, twisting,
Watching them fly.
Her toddler hands
Clutching the wand
Eyes like her Mama’s,
Bright sky-blue.
Her cheeks rosy,
Her laughter sweet
The things she wishes,
Pure and true
“Careful,”
“Keep them off the ground.”
She’ll try so hard,
Blowing lightly.
Can’t let them pop.
Promised she wouldn’t.
Her wish would shatter with it,
Right?
Now alone.
Has been for a week.
Soapy hands,
Bubble wishes.
All for her Mama.
Don’t let them drop.
Mama’s gone,
But the girl has hope.
She’ll come back
If they just don’t pop.
Right?
