Masquerade
So many people wear a mask,
hoping no one sees.
Hoping no one sees the real them,
‘cause that’s not what they want to be.
They hold yet another guise,
the real them is what there is to glimpse.
Dancing, avoiding, and dodging around,
evading themselves and the world.
Afraid of the truth,
that if they take off the mask,
they will expose the real them.
Scared that someone will dance with the real them,
so they hide behind that masquerade mask.
