-Cynthia Heimel

something is missing
someone's not here
not here with me
I don't know where He is
or what She's doing
I never quite have
but I hope I do
someday.

I pick up the phone
to call someone
but I hang it up because
someone's not here.
not wherever I am
someplace
out of place
in space
nut case

split in two
I see you, me.

there's a glass door on the porch
and I'm on both sides of it.
on the outside, looking out.
on the inside, looking in.
far away from
whatever I need to see.

sealed in by
definitions needing definitions
try to read this text but
it's backwards and boring
pretend to be riveted
but pack your bags
while you're at it.
(you'll thank me later.)

(disenfranchised, disillusioned,
disparate, desperate,
distant.)
