Beneath the fake smile,
the fake laugh,
is a hurt cut deep
and is still fresh despite the pass of time

Beneath the joking lies,
there is a toil
and a trouble you don't want to know about

Beneath the joy,
there is pain

But in the smiles,
the laughter, the jokes and the joy
is some form of the truth
it's not all pain
it can't be for the lie to be convincing

Beneath the joy,
beneath the pain,
is hope, a fierce hope
the hope that is my hiding place

Beneath the pain,
there is joy
