Can you sell my memories?
Just give them all away?
They are nestled in the corners.
They saturate the air.
How can you sell my memories?
It just doesn't seem fair.
Can you sell my memories?
They are hidden in the floor.
Can you sell my memories?
They lurk behind each door.
They float amongst,
The rays of sun,
That filter through the window panes.
You may hold them captive,
But they will never go away.
I know that it is not your fault,
That it is just a part of life.
But still I hope my memories haunt you,
Hope they cause you strife.
I hope they sream and yell at you,
Letting you know you don't belong.
I hope my memories never falter,
I pray they always stay strong.
You cannot sell my memories.
They will forever stay in place,
Both inside of my heart,
And in that now forever haunted space.
The roof and walls may fall,
The ground it may be torn.
But my memories will never leave,
The place from which they were born.

This piece was written about a house actually. My late grandmother's house which my family is determined to sell...my felings are a little less exuberant about selling it however.
