We Turned Me
We were kids, then,
full of pinky promises
and dares
and giggles behind tiny hands.
And it was just me and you;
against dragons
and evil kings
and dungeons made of tire swings.
It was we.
We were teens, then,
full of youth
and R-movies
and the freedom of your first car.
And it was just me and you;
against snotty kids
and teachers
and laughter on school bleachers.
It was we.
We were together, then,
full of memories
and kisses
and the feeling of truely loving someone.
And it was just me and you;
against 'you're-too-young'
and college
and private knowledge.
It was we.
I was alone, then,
filled with grief
and anger
and hatred for that drunk driver.
And it was just me;
against God,
myself,
and anyone else's help.
It's just me.
