Born in the shadow of the mountain
The sun kept from reaching my face
The rocks
blocked the wind, but
The cliffs
locked me in, and I’m
Crying in the shadow of the mountain.

I’ve lived in the shadow of the mountain,
Feeling trapped
and cold
and alone
But the sun always conquers the summit, so I’m
living in the shadow of the mountain
but I’m growing with the promise of a climb.

I was in Vermont, and we passed the mountains- well, some mountains, and the ending line just came to me. I rushed home to write it up!
