His breath clung to the midnight air
The stars above us twinkled
The cold air engulfed us
Just laying by his side
Staring at the unknown
Wishing for the future
But taking in the present
The air made me shake
As I allowed my self to be surrounded
By everything I never knew was possible
My stomach in knot refusing to untwine
His face pointed toward the sky
Looking for the answers he would never find
But I was happy
Just laying by his side
There was no need for words
They had all been spoken
He took my hand in the quiet
In the silence of the night
He looked over at me
Everything so perfectly
Just laying by his side

As the seasons changed so did we
No longer the people we use to be
The ones who use to lie under the stars
And watch them fall from the sky
But time changed us
And there was no going back
I moved on with my life
And we were never to meet in the middle again
But I often go back and remember
The times I was so comfortable
Just laying by his side
When I had dreams bigger than life it self
And could have sworn that I was in love
With that same boy
But times have changed
I’ve grown old
And so has he
But I often wonder if he’s ever thought of me
Does he go back to the time when we use to lay under the stars
When I thought everything was meant to be
When he looked me in the eyes
And took me by the hand
And stole my heart
And made me cry
But at that time we didn’t know
That we weren’t meant to be
And we would go on with our lives
And live out different destines
Our world is funny this way
Living out its’ own expectations
And never turning out the way we thought it would
But I don’t deny that this was just the way it was meant to be.
