Boca Raton
The question
 is, actually
 What if
 What if
 I had taken
 those minuscule
 steps farther
 Into the navy depths
 Gloom leering
 overhead
 Fins cutting
 the waves
 Serrated teeth
 hovering over
 Freshly pinked
 flesh
 What if
 the current
 had taken
 my feet from
 beneath me
 And the breath
 from my lungs
 And the strength
 From my muscles
 So tired
 From climbing
 those treacherous
 eleven flights of stairs
 What if
 What if I
 had not heard
 The wind-whipped
 warning
 And had,
 instead,
 continued into
 the dangerous depths
 What if I had
 disobeyed?
 And continued?
 What if?
