To Play With Fire
I set my house on fire,
While I was looking for entertainment.
I got bored of the same thing
That happens every day,
And I wanted something to destroy.
So I thought that I might
Learn to play with fire.
I lit a match and kindled flame,
It grew and stretched
And it grew hungry, ravenous.
Until it consumed all the food
Within its reach, it needed more,
I gave it more to keep it burning,
Lighting up the darkness.
Until my house came crashing down,
Disintegrating into ashes on the ground
And it blew away into the night,
Riding on the wind.
My only thought had been
To quietly play with fire,
But my house burned down.
And I guess I wasn’t bored.
I only wanted entertainment
But because I set my house on fire,
And turned it into ash;
That is when I learned
When you play with fire,
You get burned.
