Autumn
I sit at my new smooth desk
And wonder what my new teacher will be like
While leaves the color of scarlet apples scatter onto the floor
Sweetening the air with their cool perfume
Outside the classroom window
Bare birch trees hunch in a forest of skeletal white bones
Clacking when the wind blows
The wind groans because it is cold
It cannot get away from its own freezing breath
Yet I taste the excitement of fall
Of new books and old friends
And boxes of new sharp pencils
