the book
I draw myself closer to the warmth of the fire
Slowly but surely it will destroy me
But I stay anyway
Eventually I will reduce to ash
Grimy hands abuse and throw me about
Nothing will change
It’s been this way for hundreds of years
I cannot hide
I have no secrets
I’m yours for the taking
But I can:
Change you
Move you
Frighten you
Excite you
You warp our words for your own benefit
No one knows my true self
Once you’re bored
You shove me back
Forgotten
I am gone
I am the oppressed
I cannot love
I am alone
I am a book
