To My Traveling Soldier
The weight of the world
Has been pulling me down.
The world is so grey
When you’re so far away.
You’ve been gone for so long
And I hate to be alone.
Every day I wish you would just come home.
And every night I dream
Of you sweet eyes and smile,
And your soft brave voice when you say,
“I’ll only be gone awhile.”
But this war seems never-ending,
And every day I fear that a letter will come one day
Saying you’ve died and left me here.
Then every night I’ll see, in the stars up in the sky,
Your pain filled eyes as you lay there dying.
It feels like forever as I wait for your letters,
Some days I fear you’ll not write another.
But you told me to be brave,
And one day you’ll fly home.
Then we’ll fly up in the sky
And forever be alone.
To my soldier afar I beg you to come home,
I don’t know what I’d do without you here to hold.
All I have are memories, and memories will fade.
Oh traveling soldier can’t you see
How much I need you here with me?
