Nautical
The salt-crusted shoreline
In the eastern bay.
Beginning of day,
And the summer dawn
Streaks the cape sky pink.
As the catamarans bob,
And weave, like small floating ducks
In the bay.
The striped sails,
Red and bold against
The blue,
Blue of the sea.
The flags in rows
Bright in the first
Ray of light.
The craggy outcropping,
Slipping boat shoes,
On the upper decks,
The slick rocks.
The breeze and the ropes
And lines.
Shoving off in the new morn.
From the harbor about the cove.
Cape Cod,
In the maps
On the tips of our tongues.
Nautical.
Floating the sea,
And watching the gulls.
Looking like lobsters,
Under this sun.
Striped sundresses
And ocean swimming.
Late-nights
Neath the moonglow
On the shore.
Hello,
Nautical
Summer.
