The Knight
The dark surrounds us,
 Hides us.
 We are wrapped in it’s
 Cool embrace.
 Though not everyone sees
 It’s gentle symmetry
 or
 It’s subtle, silent grace
 Those of us who
 Understand enter
 A strange society
 An unspoken pact
 We are sentinels
 Of the dark
 The secret laid within
 Unlike those who
 View the dark
 As a cover, cloak
 Or as simple rest.
 But to me it
 Is more of a screen
 Or shelter.
In the dark everything is more
 Than it is
 More that mystery,
Silent but for a few who hear
It speak in its quiet voice.
It is a dark blanket that
 Covers the land in
 Deep blues and violets
 That shade everything
 With a new light.
 Evil things chose night
 To lurk and crawl
 Lacing it with fear.
 But we are the fearless
 Because in the night
 With no one to see.
 Alone.
It is easy to be yourself in the dark
With the night as your shield
 The only witness.
We are not afraid of the dark,
 Just afraid that someone
 Will finally see
 The real you,
 And
 Me.
