The Things They Carried
Repetition, repetition
Multiplication, and division
Pretend regret and hate
Love over again, too little, too late
Teachers talking, taking notes
Wanting to put my hands around my throat
Lovely, awfully, potentially evading death
Description takes it's toll with every breath
War, life, death, fear, courage, silence, screams
On Earth, everything is exactly what it seems
Contemplating the future, stuck in the past
Savoring every moment, making it last
Memorizing touch, reciting perfect words
Running away from others to avoid the hurt
Never being honest, but never telling lies
Loving who you are and hold your hands up to the sky
Passion, inspiration, protection, infiltration
Stitch the healed with Laceration
Oops, my mistake!
I lost the soul you were supposed to take
Oh, woe is me, perfect cookie-cutter life
And finally, even at the end
I'll contemplate turning back to the knife.
