What Will Never Be
Tears stream down my face
As I think of what will never be
For when you died and left me behind
To my heart, you stole the key
Today I saw you one last time
I knelt beside your head
I'd wished I'd told you of my love
Before cancer took you instead
If only you could've seen it all
In your hand was placed a rose
Your face was sheer perfection
Frozen in its permanent pose
I'll never forget your burial
As you sank beneath the grass
My heart became unfixable
Destroyed, like shattered glass
