Waiting for sleep to press upon my eyelids,
I see visions of the past, the present, and the future
Blend into one another in blurred frames.
The images danced in a soothing melody,
To the rhythm of hope, love, joy, and gratitude.
Reflecting upon the past with serene introspection
My past expectations and feelings lingered in my mind
As I tried to push away the unwelcome thoughts.
Contemplating the future with slight anxiety
The inevitable was colored gray with doubt,
And pastel-colored hope mingled amidst doom.
Closing my eyes and seeing the world
In a different light than in the day,
Old doubts were expelled
And new shadows were cast,
As the mysterious fog of sleep
Clouded the once clear night sky
And enticed me into the beautiful world
Of dreams and nightmares.

I wrote this one resltess night at around midnight the day before finals. Needless to say, I was tired the next day.
