The Everlasting Struggle
The fear inside of us
Shocks us to the core.
Like hooks and daggers,
Relentless in their torture.
We fight against their hold,
Clinging to every lasting memory,
The feelings of love and loss,
The feelings that make us human.
Memories of the sun on our skin,
Of the wind in our hair,
Of every touch.
And yet their strangled roots,
Dig deeper into our souls.
Pushing us deeper into the abyss of black waters.
We thrash against the cold,
Gasping as the air escapes our lungs.
And yet we fall deeper into the darkness.
This everlasting struggle
Goes on for eternity.
But we continue to fight,
Refusing to give up.
Hoping that once again,
We will feel the sun on our skin,
The wind in our hair,
Those feelings of love and loss.
Even the most painful of memories,
That have been shoved into a corner,
Forgotten and left untouched.
So while you thrash against its hold
Remember those feelings,
Surging through your mind,
Fight harder,
Fight harder,
Until you have no more to give.
