Dark Blue
All I see is dark blue
Drowning lungs cling to sweet chlorine
Time stands still as water rushes below my kicking feet
My arms ache from holding my brother, barely five years old
Pushing him into the pale yellow and faint white of the sun
I fall deeper under his weight, but will not surrender
To the gravitational pull of dark blue
All I see is dark blue
I am the guardian angel of the gold sun
Destined to spend eternity drowning in the water
Pushing him forward into the air
Filling his lungs with oxygen, filling mine with swelling waves
Filling my body with dark blue
All I see is dark blue
The pool has never seemed deeper
As he emerges into brighter colors
And I sink deeper into the darkness
He is saved at my expense
And I go back to my dwelling spot
Submerged in dark blue
