"Stay golden"
- Johnny (The Outsiders, S. E. Hinton)

'May I have this dance?'
And she slipped her arm in his,
Saying nothing, and they stepped, stepped, stepped

In a home of arms and eyes
The turn of a wrist meant everything,
So she closed her eyes
And listened as he pulled her closer
Like the wind sweeping strong wings
Into the blue sky:
The strong balance of dance

And she knew exactly
How to rest in his hand
How to hang on his shoulder
How to float like wings on the wind of his turning,
And how to fly on her own;
And she knew exactly
Where and where to go.

I close my eyes,
Sometimes,
And there is nothing more to see than when I open them,
And no hand on my back,
No wind under my hands,
Nothing to speak of but the voice in my throat
And
No
Stars.

When
Will you ask me to dance?
I want to slip my arm in yours
And listen to the turns in your wrists
I want to float
And to fly
Away

where and where
is never asked while dancing,
but rather understood.

well, songs are poetry- albeit slightly different to suit rhymth's needs. Being a vietnamese and my feelings are still transferrable to elsewhere :)

Your feedback is poetry in itself. You are so right- love requires no requisite, which is so evident in the way God has shown us his Love throughout history. I'm so excited this poem has been compared to a Carpenters song, much less a Sound of Music song hahaha. Thanks!

This poem is peaceful, reflective, the making of a small moment into happiness. One fleeting moment, one slow dance, two eyes locked into a singular. It tells me how we were created out of crazy love- that we make love out of nothing at all! God too, made us out of nothing as well, it's pretty surprising :p This poem, although slow, reminds me of the song 'Lovelines' by the Carpenters or 'sixteen going on seventeen' from the sounds of music. This poem, is for me, a simple reminder of uncondtional love. I would say...this poem is very worthwhile. I guess, I'm a sentimental boy for that.

I swear this poem should be in the magazine. It's crazy that none of your poems have been published yet! Truly something that should be in the mag.

I love the story in this, especially the second and fourth verse.
