Ironic
At first it was noble
My strength in the face of your pain
And your face against my chest

 Eventually, it was sad
A lack of strength, you were crying again
And my hands on your chest

 Sometimes, it was fitting
 It wasn't your first time
And after a while I forgot mine

 Above all it was wrong
 And a little bit sad
 The way that I raged
 And swore
At the people I'd never met
But who had taken advantage of you

And as you slowly crept back to bed
With a whisper that with me
It would never be the same
It's funny that as I lay with you
 With me lay the blame

 It's only slightly ironic
If you think of it in a certain way
 That in the end
 I was no better
Than those I professed to hate
 I, the pacifist
 And the protector
 Turned out nothing more
Than a shepherd in wolf's clothing
I'd just hidden it from myself too

But anytime I could really see you
 It's now all too evident
That you could see right through
