That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved.

Someone needs to come and save me.
I thought I could do it alone
But then the darkness pressed into my sides
Stole my breath
Filled me.
Stubborn,
I fought alone.
Pushing my arms away from my body
In a desperate attempt to give myself space
It kept getting closer
And closer
And closer
Until it seemed like there was no more room
I opened my mouth to scream for help
But the darkness snatched my voice.
I began to cry,
Tears of desperation
Tears of defeat
Tears of anger
Just when I thought all hope was lost
When nothing could be done to save me from the darkness
When I was sure time had run out
The darkness was plucked away from me.
Though it coated me slowly,
Not noticeable until I was covered,
It’s departure was swift
Gone before I could realize it was going
I blinked
Not used to the bright lights that had escaped me for so long.
When I saw clearly
I did not see who I had hoped for.
I did not see my Prince Charming
I did not see the superhero I had dreamed of.
I saw the shy kid.
The one who never talks.
The quiet kid who was in all my classes
The one who probably knows all the answers
But lets someone else do the talking.
He nodded his head at me
Gave me a small smile
And walked away.
That is the kid who stole my darkness
And saved me.

Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving. ~ Kahlil Gibran
