wild black raspberry pie
Wild black raspberry pie
Green and silver gampa drove us down the old pond road.
Passing river pebbles as we go.
My little blond pig tails blowing through the window in the hot summer after noon
I was laughing and giggling as we bounce around
gampa is my favorite person
he let me sit on his lap and drive his Studebaker truck.
He picked me up and set me down on his leg
I was just like a little porcelain doll to him
the smell of old cedar and bib overalls made every moment with gammpa stick
we went slow passing the back woods as we go
little birds and baby buffalo flew by us on that dirt road.
It was all over when we passed old boot hill.
That creepy place daddy and him kept lush and still
gampa said OK I gotta set you back in your seat were almost in town and I got a treat
I was gampas girl through and trough and stood with gampa tried and true
as we got to gampas house we pulled in the drive the Studebaker shone like a green fire ball that was alive.
We went inside to the basement where it was cool.
The smell coming from gammas big oven made me drool
this wild sweet smell that made you wonder poured from her kitchen
gamma had been busy like a bee. Making home made ice cream as much as I could see
gamma has a gift for cooking I promise you that
take in consideration why I'm so fat
gamma with her little summer dress on came from the other side of the kitchen with a mouse grin
gammpas smooth hands covered my eyes and said get ready for your surprise.
Gamma laid a plate in front of us and it was heaped over with a berry pie with sugar glazed crust
hot from the oven and strait from the churn it was wild black raspberry pie and vanilla ice cream
the wolds best combo and mouth watering treat
gammpa fed us both from his plate piled high and sweet
its a sweet thing when I have the good times with gammpa and gamma
even better with that pie
it was the first thing sweet I ever ate and I'm sure no matter how full I licked the plate
and to this day the thought of berries makes that memory come alive
