Wake Up
So much in the past,
so much coming in the future,
we either move on,
or we're tied here,
lost in the sorrows of yesterday,
and drowning in the fears of tomorrow...
Do it for all the people in your future,
for the little one,
that loves you so much,
for the boy,
that watches you like you're in a beautiful dance,
for the friend,
the one you've tried to save,
but lost anyway.
For all the ones who want to see you soar.
So for all those disappointments you can't forget,
you've shut out for so long,
let them flow,
let them rain down.
The secret isn't forgetting,
it's learning to live with it,
to deal with it,
and to love the pieces of you they've shaped.
So to all those memories that haunt you now,
always there,
lingering,
time to move away,
let the future brush past you,
let it swirl around you,
wave to it as it passes.
Whisper goodbye,
as the hopes and fears of all the years,
disappear,
fade.
All those years,
with those regrets,
kneel down beside them,
look at them in the eye,
say "You need to go on."
Watch them nod and smile,
they'll let go of your hand and follow all the bad memories,
and travel a new road,
with a new light.
You'll see them all again,
but for now,
rejoice,
they've made you an amazing person.
Smile as you take that breathe,
like a fresh breeze blowing through a fall day,
Laugh as you see it's alright.
We're not perfect,
and that's why we're perfect for this world.
Listen to the song pouring from your heart,
it'll lead you so far...
But it'll lead you home again.
Today is to precious to waste,
that's why it's called the present.
