Open and closed, the silver doors slide
New faces step through, onto checkered tile
Grasping onto the gray rail
The press of a button, the orange light flashes
Up and down, in and out
Open and closed, the silver doors slide
In come people, hurrying through
Not recognizing faces or caring for that matter
Tall or short, thin or wide
Different expressions pass by
Riding on, high and low
Until it stops, and you’re alone
Up and down, in and out
