Cigarrettes and Cheap Cologne
He watched her, curiously wondering,
what it would be like feeling her skin.
At the foot of her bed, just gazing,
picturing what lies within.
He stayed there never moving.
Until the crack of dawn.
Until the clock hit 5:59.
that's when he would be gone.
Watching her night after night.
keeping the same routine.
Watching her, and just waiting there,
seeing the most beauty he has seen.
When the clock strikes six she will awake.
Not knowing he has been there.
But every morning when she gets up,
there's a strange lingering in the air.
The scent of cigarettes, and cheap cologne,
unusually comforting to her.
The scent of cigarettes, and cheap cologne,
the kind her dad would prefer.
He had passed away just months ago,
they never had goodbyes.
But the scent of cigarettes, and cheap cologne,
still brings a sparkle to her eyes.
