The Oil Fields
I’m lost alone in the silver sea
Reading through a worn-out decree
“At the cost of all; and just for one
We’ll build these towers from soil to sun.”
I’m drifting away on a silver ship
Through tunnels, like faucets, that drip, drip
The black blood of industry flowing much faster
Through the cage we have made for our master.
I’m hanging onto the slippery side
Of a wall we’ve made so that we can hide
The monster chomping at its chains
This ‘heaven’ which old men proclaim.
I’m falling down the sadistic spiral
Through videos that are going viral
All around me the voices ring
“Once again we’re on the upswing!”
I’m lying on a shattered shrine
That once stood proud for all mankind
Its gorgeous hues, its peace and grace
Lost in the midst of the human rat race.
I’m drowning in the silver sea
But no one will come to rescue me.
