It's just a dress.
It's just material.

But she puts it on
it makes her feel good,
makes her feel real.

Like something important,
something achingly beautiful.

And then she realizes something,
tonight it will come off.

Once again, it's just her,
standing vulnerable, standing naked.

So its not just a dress.... It's a shield.

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by how women find so much more in clothing than most would think. Especially ones with low self esteem or who are broken. Personally this piece was inspired by how I feel when I wear my "little black dress"
