“A thousand moments that I had just taken for granted- mostly because I had assumed that there would be a thousand more.”

Every summer

Her family had a barbeque

To celebrate her birthday

And every summer

She would receive hugs

That made her grimace

As hands made contact with her arms

And every summer

They would ask

“Why the sweater?”

And every summer

She would turn away

And whisper

“I was cold.”

And every summer

She smiled a sad smile

When she would blow out the candles

And wished to die

And last summer

She had tears in her eyes

As she said

“I love you” and “see you soon”

And this summer

There was no barbeque

Because this summer

There was no birthday.

"Only a world with depth could feel empty. If there was nothing to be found, we would feel no need to search"

This is beautifull, seriously. In the beginning it grabbed my attention and I was wondering what it could be talking about, once I read the end,  I was filled with a feeling of great sorrow, I really like it :)

"Love is Blind" i truly believe in this it is in all of my pieces, and if u read between the lines then u will find it there...

Woa.. that...that was really good. Mostly because I can relate... on my last birthday I wished the same thing, and people cheered and said "I hope it comes true!" little did they know what they were celebrating. But yeag, this is realy awesome!

WOW, I absolutely love this poem :D. It's deep, a little dark, simple and beautifully written. The ending is especially jaw dropping. You are very talented, write on :D.

Can I just say "WOW!" No, that's not sufficient for this amazing poem. I love the ending. Best ending for a poem A lot of poem feels this way and I think you beautifully interpreted how they feel without becoming melodramatic. Beautiful poem.

What if the cure for cancer, is trapped inside the mind of someone who can't afford an education?

‎Don't be sad, every time God closes a door, He opens another one up. He also opens windows along the way. Enjoy them, and do you Chemistry homework.

This was amazing! I love how it slowly tells the story then has an ending that come up so suddenly. It was just written so wonderfully...

"All that is gold does not glitter/Not all those who wander are lost/The old that is strong does not wither/Deep roots are not reached by the frost"

This poem is quiet, slow, and it creeps like depression before it cuts like suicide. It's a powerful poem in the way of the implicit death and strange contrast between the happy elements of summer and celebration with unseen inner turmoil. It's steady and lingering--5 stars.

Really, really, truly amazing... the way that you conveyed the meaning of the poem (the suicide, the depressive feelings) was flawless. Your imagery and your well-developed ideas were very well devoped. I totally agree with Laugh-it-Out-- this piece deserves well over 1,000 views and I hope to see your piece top-rated in its section in the coming days... in fact, my piece that you already checked out just debuted at #1 this morning! Amazing work on the piece, and best of luck with your writing!
