I know this much
I don’t know a lot.
My knowledge is but adequate.
All I can do is my best; all I can go is farther.
I look around at the people, the
Mournful,
Tired,
Frightened,
faces.
Why are they so? Where are the hopeful?
I don’t know a lot,
But I see this much.
I don’t know much, Though---
When there are more people with crosses on necks
and less with guns in hands—
When someone falls and we do NOT avert our eyes away
towards the new Lexus instead—
When less time is spent on hair and makeup
and more time spent on the poor—
When every dollar that we borrow
is paid back fully to its owner—
When we emerge out of our convenient iPhone cages
and look our loved ones in the eye—
When black is black and white is white,
and no one speaks another lie-lie—why?
---Then I know the world has changed for the better.
I don’t know a lot,
But I know this much.
