It's More Than Just Music

Breathe deeply with the sigh of harmony
Freely drifting into the abyss of music
But what is music, if it just sound?
Just waves flowing through the air and into us
Just patterns of beats that sound pleasing to us
But maybe, just maybe it’s something more to us.
Maybe an art, maybe an escape, and maybe a way of life.
Holding us together for the sunrise that barley kisses the sky.
A new day to be awakened by the resonance of quick beats.
But lets slow the river of melody, and captivate each note with
A stroke of our fingertips.
Remember the time when your hands felt so small,
But the endless pages of music notes made you feel
Infinite inside.
Wanting to be consumed so completely you forget that time even exists.
Maybe, just maybe music is a magical land for the innocent to invent,
For the broken to wash upon the tight ropes of strings,
For the unknown to be heard.
It’s a map for the lost, an out let for the creative, and a cry for the help.
Music is an expression for the unheard.
For what is a note, without a complete melody?
A sunset is just a lonely field without its bleeding sun to fall.
A murder is just sharp metal on the ground without the bright, red blood.
Music is just noise put together if it is without the meaning that is trying to be conveyed.
Maybe, just maybe, music is a soul trapped in winter, a kiss stolen in spring, a silent cry in the night of summer.
A loved one lost like the leaves of autumn turning so alive, and then losing them all.
Searching desperately for the acquired tune,
Until the soul was found.
Turning the autumn leaves into a map,
Guiding the notes back into our hearts
Because we know
It’s more than just music.

I wrote this poem with my best friend Camille, because we both have a strong passion for music. I couldn't have written this without her.

Amazing. I really liked it, though the part about the autumn leaves was a little confusing. But great job!
