The Fall
Down the snow mountain she fell
tumbled down till she could fall no more.
 From the befall she
choked on a mouthful of snow as the bottom of the mountain punched her square in the face,
acquired a wound worth six stitches in her kneecap
 plus a sprained ankle.
Echoes of laughter from spectators filled the arena,
  Loud and discordant
Medics transported her away from the jeers, her dreams of winning the ski championships.
She couldn’t ascertain whether her pride hurt more,
or the wounds from the fall
