smoker's cough
You put words out
like cigarettes
they are death between your lips
despair rolling off your tongue
fumes of misery
that grow within
hollow lips of empty promises
making you numb
breaths of dark roads
flowing out
like rivers of tears you’ve dread
causing you to feel inside
everything that was left unsaid
so you drop the bud to the ground
along with your faith
and crush it
as if it’s your shame
leaving it to decay
into the gravel
letting it become the pathway
to the end of your survival
