Winter
Snow falls on the window pane
in a flurry of water down the sink
and the ice cycles drip liquid luck
like tears that sparrows drink
The icy fingers of winter wind
slip through my hair like light
and rush through clothing cracks
like venom that sparrows drink
The snow drift standing
like waves of opaque glass
hides sunlight, sleek and bright
like oleander leaves that sparrow eat
And I stand in the shadow land
of winter, dull and new,
and consume it all,
like tears that sparrows drink.
