School Sanctuary
I hide my soul in these crowded hallways
I smile and let myself go
You see me smiling and laughing
A result of the suppressed hurt I still hide

I seal my heart in these heavy textbooks
And forget my scars as the bell rings,
Forget the hate that still burns my hand

I escape reality with each friend I talk to
But soon the solitude follows as the doors close and the final bell rings

I leave myself locked in there
Throw the key under essays and trigonometry problems
And smile as my final tears of the day shimmer where no one can see them
