She makes it through her day, but doesn't just “make it” through her day. She holds within her at all time the faith that she belongs, even when she doesn't belong. She belongs to the world; she belongs in her life; her heart and mind and soul belong

I got into a fight with my demons this morning...
Well more like... an argument.
Really.
I wanted to leave, but
They wouldn't let me go.
They said something about...
Leaving the oven on.
Or still having work to be done.
Or something...

Oh! My demons and I.
Sometimes we don't get along, but
I need them, and
There are so many things I don't know...
(And not many that I do, they say.)

I had wanted to go outside, I...
I'd wanted to breathe, to feel my lungs expand...
(They wanted them to shrink.)
I had wanted to bathe in the sunlight.
(They wanted me to sink.)

One time we really got into it,
My demons and I, because
I woke up one morning and thought
that I could sense a drift of change
coming along.
I thought, "it seems as though the earth
is shifting, right underneath my feet..."
"How lovely to be along for the ride."

They...well, they were not amused.
(To say the least.)
In fact they were rather offended.
(They can be so cruel to me...)
They were right all along though,
The earth wasn't shifting,
It was just the rumble of my washing machine
banging against the wall.

I can be very silly sometimes.
(All the time.)
I have my fair share of flaws, like anyone...
(I'm the worst human alive.)
It's a good thing I have my demons
to keep me on my toes.

Sometimes I convince myself...
That I would like for us to go
Our separate ways, but
I know we are not separable,
like an egg white and its yolk.
To tell the truth,
I love my demons.
(I hate my demons.)
They're all that I am.
