What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

A lonely night, full of fright.
A mysterious experience that would change your life.
Walking down the stairs, then entering the kitchen.
The door slams shut. What happened? What was that?
Checking the area; no one is to be found.
What just happened? What was that sound?
A shadow of light is spotted, but no one is to be found.
What was causing the distant sound?
There is no one around and no one to be seen.
I look and lean, but still nothing is seen.
The room goes silent and the light goes off.
Who's there? Who touched it? What's going on?
The light is off, the room is pitch black.

Reaching around to find the switch, scared, frightened, nothing is to be seen.
The light switch is felt and then turned on.
Thank you, happy at last, light is now here.
Opening the cupboard and reaching for a packet of crisps.
Something to eat, to make the hunger disappear.
Snack time has finished, the crisps have been consumed.
The packet is put in the bin before exiting the room.
In the hallway a newspaper has been knocked on the floor.
Confused, frightened, I'll just ignore.
Picking it up and putting it back in a neat an orderly stack.
Travelling up the stairs and back into bed. Hope no one noticed. Comfortable and ready for bed, POP! The light bulb goes off. Am I dead?

The author's comments:
This piece is about ghosts it is written in first person to create dramatic effect. The story isn't about what happened to me, but it's about me going downstairs and looking for snack and a ghost tries to play with my head. But in this poetry story I don't think much of it and think that it's just my mind. This story isn't real, but it is based on a ghost experience. At the end of the story a light shatters when I get into bed that's supposed to be the part where my mind clicks and realises I'm not alone which is why the ghost smashes the light, because it wants to be noticed.
