Power
It sat at the end of the hall
On display for all
I was curious about it
Was it a box, a locket, a mitt?
As I tiptoed to the table
My whole body felt unstable
I had to grab it and run;
Make it before the rising sun
I snatched the case
And ran as if I was running a race
My heart thudded in my ear
I shook with fear
Someone stopped me
It was a she
My grandmother took me home
And I spent the night alone
I had to know what the box contained
But first I had to see if it still remained
In my house
I’d have to be as quiet as a mouse
Once again I was gripped with fear
There still had to be a chance it was near
That’s when I saw it in the kitchen
On it was written:
“For my dear Claire
Please share
Your power for good.”
Then I thought, “If I had power, I would.”
I pulled off the top of the box
And found some polished rocks
A gem was nestled in the center with a chain
When I picked it up I felt as if I was going insane
Unbelievable power surged through me
Grandma came and gasped, “You’re the key!”
I was the Chosen One
Protector under the golden sun
The power took over
I was as lucky as a four-leaf-clover
The gem started to glow
And my true identity began to show
But the power wouldn’t stop
If it didn’t I would drop
Before my time was up, I knew I had to use it for good
And I knew I should
But things don’t always go as planned
So I had to deal with the problem at hand
I yanked off the band and let it land
