"Oh, what fresh hell is this"-Anonymous, on the subject of gym class

The book looks ready to fly.
The words are powerful enough to be wings.
They live and breathe and burn and die
And tell of beautiful things.

When she closes the book, the fires dim,
The endless beauty is gone.
She should be out cruising the town with him,
But she can't make herself move on.

The map on the wall is quiet,
The pictures tell no tails.
Her mind is also quiet
But soon she will cast away, and unfurl her sails.

She will leave here soon.
The day is almost come.
So why, in this quiet afternoon,
Does she bid goodbye to no one?

She can't explain the way she feels,
All the maps in the world couldn't tell.
How she fell in love the wrong way,
And the painful way she fell.

The light outside the window is fading slowly away.
She knows she'll never get another chance
This is her last day
This is her last chance

The light shows what none can see
The uncertainty deep inside
The darkness will come
And she will hide.

So she quietly bids goodbye to the girl
Deep inside her mind
Big green eyes and unruly curls
And a love she'll never find

The train leaves at midday,
The bags are packed, the love is gone
She watches her home slip away
And tries to move on

This is what happens to things left unsaid
They hurt us in the end
But yet she finds no tears are shed
As she says goodbye to a friend

Dawn is rising over the train cars now
The stars are burning out
She will move on
This she knows without a doubt

Distance takes the pain away,
Distance makes it all so clear
Distance takes away the love you hold so dear
And you can forget that perfect day

There's a little apartment on third street
Down the street from the local airport
There's a phone on the kitchen counter
The phone has nothing to report

The girl with the green eyes hasn't called
She's far away now, for sure.
Cassidy sits by the phone, in her books enthralled.
She has been told too often that her love is not pure.

Day turns to day, and she forgets.
She moves on slowly, bit by bit.
Traveling always pulls her away from her regrets.
So she is sure to never try to commit

She lives Singapore now.
The sun and city warm her bones
And she often wonders how
She was ever happy in that place they forced her to call home.
