America is being free
The freedom to be young
Or old
To believe what you want
And to do everything you can

America is apple pie
And thanksgiving
And a Norman Rockwell painting of a world
That never really existed
But that everyone loves anyway

America is the dream
A nice house
A car
Children playing around your knees
Something better than you have ever known

America is the open road
Running away
And moving fast
And being alive
Following the snaking highway through the desert

America is Rocky Mountain high
And wide plains
Busy cities like ants nests
Land for everyone
From sea to shining sea

America is a melting pot
People from everywhere
Young, old
Black and white
Civil rights for everyone
And freedom to be different

So, here's my version of the national anthem... No bombs bursting in air, just my favorite parts of America.
