Love Song for Fools
This is a love song
For the fools
Who hold on to a dream with no anchor,
Wrapping their heart with glances worth pennies
And words worth less
For the fools
Who with plastered smiles
And broken hearts
Kept hoping
That one day,
He’d see them through the fog
That in the end,
He’d be theirs
For the fools
Who cried for him
When he found someone else
But still sent texts
With little smiley faces
And laughed along
Thinking that maybe
If they kept talking
He’d be theirs
For the fools
Who never gave up
Through all the lost hope,
Broken promises,
Dreams that never came to be.
All this time they held on
To the possibility
That one day,
He’d be theirs
But fools, don't you see?
You're in love with a dream
He might see the bruises he's made around your heart
But he's no closer to healing them
Than you are to forgetting him
These are the lovesick fools
Who reach for love they can't catch
In their tear stained hands
Who love a dream
With silent devotion
And crash each time it dies,
But climb back up somehow
Only to fall again.
These are the fools.
And I?
I am a fool.
